Airlines are like the average consumer in this way: when making a big-ticket technology purchase, they simply want and expect it to work. If a problem should arise, they want the issue to be addressed and resolved quickly and with minimal interruption.

When airlines purchase and install an inflight connectivity solution from Intelsat, they get that much-desired peace of mind with continuous access to non-stop support from the moment the service is switched on.

Comprised of a team of industry veterans and experts, Intelsat’s support team works behind the scenes, monitoring the performance of the equipment on the aircraft as well as the satellite network to ensure that whatever system is installed onboard – be it Air to Ground (ATG), 2Ku or the latest ESA antenna – works flawlessly and meets the expectations of its airline partners and their passengers.

Intelsat’s approach to support is multi-faceted and layered. Each airline partner has a dedicated customer operations manager who works directly with maintenance teams, program managers, and airline inflight connectivity teams to address emerging issues, and ensure optimized performance. If a failure occurs, the Intelsat customer manager interfaces and coordinates with the Network Operations Center and internal airline teams to identify the root cause of the issue and execute the needed fix.

Ongoing proactive and predictive maintenance is another critical aspect of support. Intelsat support teams use sophisticated tools to monitor both the network and the airplane. When certain predefined thresholds, parameters, or trends are flagged, automated reports and tickets are generated, after which the issue is reviewed, monitored, and addressed. Intelsat’s approach to proactive monitoring preempts failures before passengers even recognize there might be an issue.

Intelsat also provides tools to give airline partners enhanced visibility into their own operations. Airline teams can review the performance of the inflight connectivity system on individual flights and query the system to gain critical insight on a wide range of service metrics.

Intelsat’s strong relationships and regular engagements with its airline partners, combined with technology that allows for real-time monitoring, troubleshooting, and tracking, give airlines the comfort of knowing their inflight connectivity system will function as expected and any interruptions to service will be minimal.

The Intelsat support team communicates with our counterparts every day, reporting on reliability metrics, coordinating with maintenance teams, and catching problems before they become apparent to our customers and their passengers. For Intelsat, it’s never just about switching boxes or throwing more hardware at a problem. We have the expertise to fix things the right way the first time and the tools to be proactive.

This flexibility and nimbleness were on full display following the recent loss of a critical satellite positioned over parts of Africa and Asia. Within the first 24 hours, Intelsat was able to restore service in most of the area by repositioning satellite beams and refocusing assets to where connectivity for commercial airlines needed to be.

The rapid response and restoration of connectivity for airlines flying through the impacted areas demonstrated our ability to respond to unforeseen circumstances. The Intelsat team jumped into action and adapted to fix the problem, communicating with our partners all along the way. Moreover, the satellite loss and resulting response also further underscored the importance of working with an IFC provider that has a fully redundant and agile satellite network.

It’s this unwavering commitment to non-stop support that sets Intelsat apart and ensures that its airline partners can always deliver exceptional inflight experiences everywhere they fly.

The post Transforming Airline Operations with Non-stop Connectivity and Reliability appeared first on Intelsat.

]]>
Intelsat’s inflight connectivity solution dramatically enhances inflight experiences for commercial air travelers around the world. Multi-orbit networks, electronically steered antennas, and virtualized space and ground systems deliver unprecedented levels of performance, allowing passengers to stream, text, and browse the internet as they would in their homes or offices.

However, the benefits of Intelsat’s capabilities extend well beyond the passenger experience. With increased reliability, robust speeds, and uninterrupted coverage anywhere a plane might fly, including over polar regions and in some of the most congested airspace in the world, Intelsat can deliver non-stop service that pilots, flight attendants, and airline operations teams rely upon to optimize routing, increase efficiency, and maximize safety.

Here is how Intelsat’s inflight connectivity solutions – the same systems already delivering superior passenger connectivity – can be leveraged and extended to enhance all aspects of flight operations:

Connecting the Pilot’s Digital Briefcase:

The briefcases full of charts and other assorted paperwork pilots once brought into the cockpit have long since been replaced by electronic flight bags (EFBs). Pilots use connected devices loaded with a range of applications for optimizing flight routes, monitoring changing weather conditions, and enhancing overall situational awareness in the air. These applications all require internet connectivity and access to aircraft systems, such as positioning, in real time. Intelsat’s inflight connectivity solutions ensure that pilots have a private, secure network for sending and receiving valuable information in flight, leading to enhanced efficiency, reduced fuel burn, and a smoother flight for passengers.

Empowering Flight Attendants:

Like pilots, flight attendants rely on in-cabin technology, including tablets and mobile devices, to process credit and debit card payments at the point of sale, retrieve information for passengers related to connecting flights and baggage, report any cabin defects, along with any number of additional functions that accelerate speed and quality of service. Intelsat’s inflight connectivity solutions allow flight attendants to access information in real time, minimizing the impacts of credit card fraud for the airline, and providing a more personalized experience for passengers.

Accessing Real-time Flight Data: A Veritable Gold Mine for Airlines

Not long ago, flight performance data had to be manually retrieved from avionics systems while the aircraft was on the ground. Often, by the time the USB drives or floppy disks could be accessed, the data contained within was outdated, destroyed, corrupted, or lost. By accessing aircraft systems data in flight, Intelsat makes real-time data streaming possible without the need for additional hardware, such as Aircraft Interface Devices. These data feeds allow airline operations teams on the ground to fully understand how a plane is functioning and capture potential maintenance issues before they become major problems that take an aircraft out of service. The data transfer enabled by Intelsat’s inflight connectivity service increases safety and reduces costs by helping airlines make on-the-fly route adjustments to optimize fuel efficiency or avoid areas of turbulence, all without impacting the safety of flight systems.

Given the extent to which all aspects of airline operations today rely on data and technology, the availability of reliable high-speed connectivity is non-negotiable. The traditional low bandwidth satellite connectivity services of the past, while still valuable for certain tasks, are unable to meet the demand. By installing and leveraging Intelsat’s multi-orbit IFC solution, the same service many airlines are already using to provide a superior and competitively differentiating inflight experience for passengers, airlines can enhance operations, from the cockpit to the cabin to the ground.

Demand for inflight connectivity (IFC) among business and leisure travelers continues to soar. However, the nature of passenger demand is changing, and each airline’s approach to serving that demand is unique.

Passengers are more discerning and increasingly focused on quality, reliability and the experience offered by the brands with which they align themselves. They not only expect their airline of choice to have inflight connectivity, but they also expect to be able to video stream, browse the internet with speed, access a myriad of entertainment options, engage across multiple social media channels, and even video conference. Essentially, today’s air traveler wants and expects to have the same experiences as they do on the ground, but at 30,000 feet in the air, going 600 miles an hour.

Commercial airlines are experts in planning routes, managing capacity, and moving people from one point to another. They also understand the importance of delivering an exceptional inflight experience that evolves with the changes in demand and technology. While airlines are pretty savvy about keeping on top of the latest developments in inflight connectivity technology, they also depend on establishing long-term partnerships with IFC solution providers, like Intelsat, to communicate the latest research and technology roadmap, especially as inflight experience has become a key driver of passenger loyalty.

By partnering with Intelsat, airlines can deliver an industry-differentiating connectivity experience while simultaneously monetizing investments in IFC technology to enhance business operations and generate new revenue streams.

Intelsat works closely with each airline partner and listens intently to understand their needs and deliver the right customized solution. By taking a consultative approach and working together on an ongoing basis, we learn what is most valuable and develop a connectivity strategy that helps airlines meet their respective goals.

Innovation moves at a blistering pace. Any consumer who has recently purchased a technology product knows that it doesn’t take long for that product to become outdated. The same applies to IFC technology.

Airlines that invest in off-the-shelf connectivity solutions will soon find themselves missing opportunities to increase engagement with their customers, unable to deliver personalized offers that make customers feel special, neglecting ways to unlock new revenues through advertising or partnership campaigns, and falling behind technologically as new multi-orbit connectivity options enhance quality and ubiquity of coverage in the most congested routes and across the pole.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to an inflight connectivity strategy. Every airline is a unique brand, with different passenger compositions, business strategies, and therefore unique technology and connectivity requirements.

Larger carriers may want to offer connectivity services free of charge to their elite guests as a way of retaining loyal customers. Smaller, regional airlines may choose to charge a fee for different levels of access to generate incremental revenue. Others may see inflight connectivity as an opportunity to offer complementary products and services to their customers or to streamline other areas of the business, such as flight crew coordination, baggage handling, or inflight payments.

No matter the size of the airline, their connectivity ambitions, or whether they are just beginning their inflight connectivity journey or have established offerings, Intelsat’s long-term partnership approach means airlines are working with a team of experts that have been designing and delivering innovative IFC solutions since day one. As market conditions change, business priorities emerge, and technologies evolve, we work side-by-side with each airline customer, helping to extract maximum value from inflight connectivity investments today and into the future.

In the uber-competitive aviation industry where margins are thin and competitive challenges numerous, airlines must ensure that every passenger, from the cost-conscious leisure traveler to the frequent business flier and everyone in between, has a positive and delightful experience. To do so, airlines need the flexibility to offer products and services tailored to each passenger’s status and profile.

That’s exactly what airlines get from Intelsat’s “Non-stop” inflight connectivity solutions. Intelsat delivers the flexibility that allows airlines to deliver a premium connectivity and entertainment experience to all passengers, from the first-class cabin to the last rows of economy.

The quality of the inflight connectivity experience is directly linked to passenger satisfaction. Passengers demonstrate loyalty to airlines that can provide high-speed, uninterrupted connectivity in the air from gate to gate. Airlines using Intelsat’s network can meet these demands while simultaneously delivering unique offers and customized services to different passenger segments.

With a long history of serving airlines and understanding business goals and challenges, Intelsat delivers inflight connectivity experiences that enhance loyalty from business and leisure travelers and encourage repurchase decisions. The company’s solutions are developed based on years of experience and are designed to benefit airlines and passengers alike. By taking a consultative approach, Intelsat listens to their airline customers’ goals and delivers a customized solution that can serve every use case in the connectivity space.

Within a single flight, for example, an airline could provide their most valued and loyal frequent fliers with great streaming experiences and the same premium high-speed connectivity they would have on the ground at no charge. At the same time, new customers could be enticed to join the airlines’ loyalty program with offers of free Wi-Fi for the duration or a segment of the flight. For other passengers, airlines can generate revenue by charging incrementally for general access or different levels of connectivity speed.

The flexibility of Intelsat’s solution also makes it easy for airlines to form partnerships and co-marketing arrangements with third-party service providers, such as mobile carriers who can subsidize service costs as a reward to existing subscribers or to market to potential new customers.

As airlines continue to explore ways to attract customers and drive revenues, the flexibility of Intelsat’s inflight connectivity platform allows airlines to leverage inflight connectivity and entertainment as a competitive differentiator, driving growth and enhanced customer loyalty.

Intelsat’s global satellite network delivers the breadth, coverage, and capacity that makes it possible for airlines to deliver a superior inflight experience for all passengers. However, ensuring that every passenger in every seat on every plane can enjoy a premium connectivity and entertainment experience is heavily dependent on the quality of the terminals, antennas, and core equipment installed on the aircraft.

For this reason, in addition to continuous investment in enhancing its satellite and ground network, Intelsat collaborates with leading aerospace manufacturers to develop next-generation antennas that deliver new levels of inflight connectivity reliability.

Working in tandem with BAE Systems (formerly Ball Aerospace) and Stellar Blu Solutions, Intelsat has developed a next-generation Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna designed to ensure maximum reliability of Intelsat’s “Non-stop” inflight connectivity service no matter where an aircraft flies.

Existing antennas installed on aircraft are typically composed of multiple moving parts that are susceptible to wear and tear, vulnerable to extreme elements, and therefore inherently less reliable. The ESA antenna is a singular lightweight unit with no moving parts. Instead of mechanically steered components constantly adjusting as the aircraft flies, the ESA antenna connects to satellites electronically, dramatically reducing the likelihood of failure. Each antenna consists of nine individual arrays that can operate independently, offering multiple levels of redundancy compared to the traditional mechanically steered antennas.

Intelsat’s ESA antenna has the flexibility to connect to satellites in both geostationary (GEO) and non-GEO (NGEO) orbits, allowing airlines to access and benefit from the company’s multi-orbit network.

In addition to enhanced reliability, the ESA antenna contributes to airlines’ cost and sustainability goals. Its diminished size and weight reduces drag, leading to fuel savings and lower CO2 emissions. And, in the event the antenna should require service, Intelsat’s Adapter Plate design requires zero sealant or specialized tooling; thus repairs can be made in less time as compared to legacy antennas, allowing planes to return to service sooner.

During any flight, an aircraft will experience extreme changes in temperature, significant pressurization forces, constant vibration, and any number of atmospheric and environmental elements. Intelsat’s ESA system is designed to endure these harsh conditions and continue to operate with maximum effectiveness.

Intelsat continues to put the ESA antenna through a gauntlet of tests to ensure the antenna performs as expected when facing the most extreme conditions. By simulating flight experiences and exposing the antenna to temperatures and vibrations that exceed the limits of design, Intelsat is able to identify opportunities to further improve performance and deliver even higher levels of reliability. With innovations like the ESA antenna, Intelsat is delivering unmatched reliability & performance, enabling its airline partners to offer enhanced inflight connectivity experiences that drive passenger loyalty in the highly competitive airline industry.

Demand for inflight connectivity has blossomed and increased exponentially over the last 15 years. Passengers are connecting more powerful devices, streaming copious amounts of content, accessing dynamic websites, and using data-rich applications that require higher bandwidth, lower latency, and continuous connectivity.

As mobile device technology has evolved, so has supporting inflight connectivity infrastructure. Through it all, one constant has remained: Intelsat’s leadership and presence at the forefront of inflight connectivity innovation.

From the first Ku-band systems to the introduction of 2Ku service powering speeds of over 100 Mbps, to its landmark acquisition of Gogo in 2020, Intelsat’s passion for and commitment to innovation helps its airline partners meet the demands of business and leisure customers who expect a similar connectivity experience at 35,000 feet as they have on the ground.

Now, Intelsat has unveiled the latest significant milestone innovation for commercial aviation – multi-orbit connectivity. This new capability ensures airlines can deliver “non-stop service” across all routes, at all times, around the world.

Intelsat combines capacity from its owned fleet of proven, reliable, and resilient geostationary satellites with the low latency and global coverage offered by OneWeb’s low-Earth orbit constellation, integrated into one seamless solution. With access to capacity from both networks made possible via a lower-profile and lighter-weight electronically steered antenna, Intelsat ensures airline passengers have the right amount of bandwidth for any connected application, whether sending and receiving emails, browsing the internet, or streaming entertainment content.

With a multi-orbit network, airlines can deliver a dramatically enhanced onboard connectivity experience. Whether operating over polar regions, on the fringes of the network, or in high-traffic areas where congestion can potentially limit speeds, airlines can access the best network to maintain the highest quality of service. Each network also offers redundancy for the other, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity in the unlikely event an individual satellite or element of the network is disrupted.

For Intelsat, “non-stop service” also means a never-ending pursuit of innovation and evolution to improve connectivity technology. For example, airlines using today’s multi-orbit solution may pre-determine the appropriate time to switch from one network to another based on geographic considerations. Soon, new algorithms and terminals at the edge will automate network switching, informed by real-time performance as well as current and predicted utilization of each network.

The forthcoming launch of software-defined satellites, capable of dynamically allocating the right amount of bandwidth with fewer interruptions to service and at a lower cost, will deliver ever greater speeds and value.

Airlines understand the value inflight connectivity brings to their business. Passengers will choose the airline that offers a superior experience. Intelsat’s commitment to innovation ensures that its airline partners can meet the ever-increasing demands for premium connectivity and deliver an inflight experience that boosts both loyalty and the bottom line today and into the future.

Multi-orbit antenna delivers first-ever polar service

MCLEAN, Va. – Intelsat, operator of one of the world’s largest integrated satellite and terrestrial networks and leading provider of in-flight connectivity (IFC), has completed a series of historic test flights to the Arctic Circle demonstrating that airlines that require inflight internet connectivity on long-haul flights at extreme northerly latitudes can access low-latency, high-throughput service at any point on their route map.

“Airlines and their passengers have never had access to polar connectivity, but Intelsat made history as the first inflight connectivity provider to provide high-speed internet service above the Arctic Circle,” said Dave Bijur, the company’s senior vice president of Commercial Aviation. “This is an important region for airlines operating intercontinental flights. Thanks to Intelsat’s multi-orbit satellite service and ESA antenna, millions of international passengers flying on polar routes will enjoy reliable, non-stop connectivity from gate to gate.”

The test flights were completed on Intelsat’s test aircraft, a CRJ-700 regional jet equipped with an Electronically Steered Array (ESA) antenna. During the test flights, engineers from Intelsat and Ball Aerospace collected data necessary to understand the ESA’s operations and connections with different satellite orbits at different latitudes:

 • On December 17, 2023, Intelsat operated its test aircraft from Seattle, Washington to Anchorage, Alaska. Anchorage is located at roughly 61° north, making it the northernmost city served by major airlines, anywhere on the planet. This flight was operated using Intelsat’s fleet of geostationary (GEO) satellites, proving high-throughput GEO service is available using Intelsat ESA at all global airline hubs.

 • On December 18, 2023, Intelsat operated a roundtrip flight from Anchorage to Utqiaġvik, Alaska (formerly Barrow, AK). Utqiaġvik is situated at a latitude of 71° north, the same as many polar routes connecting Asia, North America and Europe. This flight was operated using OneWeb’s fleet of low Earth orbit satellites and demonstrated that high-speed, low latency performance is available even in a challenging geographic region that previously never had inflight internet service.

“The two tests validated the capabilities of Intelsat’s multi-orbit solution for airlines,” said Pat Walsh, senior vice president of Engineering. “As the aircraft traveled due north from Anchorage into the Arctic Circle, we seamlessly connected to the OneWeb low-earth orbit constellation delivering 150 megabits per second inflight and on the ground in Alaska. In addition, near the polar region, Intelsat’s GEO operations exceeded expectations, delivering a reliable, high-speed connection all the way to Anchorage.”

Commenting on the test flight, Ben Griffin, VP Mobility at Eutelsat OneWeb said, “We congratulate Intelsat on this milestone moment, made possible by OneWeb’s low Earth orbit constellation. This continuous connectivity across all routes and latitudes is a game changer for international airlines flying between East and West across the polar region. This historic flight validates the 5C’s of connectivity that together OneWeb and Intelsat can deliver to our airline customer namely – coverage, capacity, connection, consistency, and community.”

Commercial airlines are very aware of the inextricable link between the inflight Wi-Fi passenger experience, consumer satisfaction, and profitability. No matter the distance, route, or duration of a flight, passengers expect to have the same level of connectivity and access to entertainment as they would at home or in their offices.

To ensure its commercial airline partners can provide a superior and differentiating inflight connectivity experience, Intelsat continues to invest in new network advancements and industry-leading innovations.

Innovating the Inflight Wi-Fi Experience

“We’re changing the entire equation for the commercial aviation industry,” said Intelsat’s Vice President of Product Development, Blane Boynton. “We’re developing several innovations that will enable airlines to deliver continuous, high-quality connectivity anywhere a plane flies, and at a lower cost.”

By virtualizing its satellite and ground network, Intelsat is ushering in a new era of unparalleled flexibility where bandwidth can be dynamically allocated to planes equipped with software-defined modems and smaller, lighter, and cheaper electronically steered array antennas.

Intelsat CRJ-700 with electronically steered array (ESA) antenna installed to offer superior inflight Wi-Fi
Intelsat CRJ-700 with electronically steered array (ESA) antenna installed to offer superior inflight Wi-Fi
Multi-orbit satellite connectivity is the key to a better experience

But perhaps the most significant advancement on the horizon is the introduction of multi-orbit network capability.

“Each satellite orbit has its respective advantages and strengths,” said Carmel Ortiz, SVP of Technology and Innovation. “GEO networks are tremendously resilient, highly efficient in capacity delivery, and offer great economics. Low- and Medium-Earth Orbit (LEO and MEO) constellations offer complete global coverage, including over the poles, lower latency communications, and can be accessed via smaller, flat panel antennas. We will enable commercial airlines to exploit the best of all orbits.”

Intelsat’s multi-orbit connectivity solution will seamlessly integrate the capabilities of its fleet of owned and operated GEO satellites, a new constellation of MEO satellites, LEO satellites from OneWeb, and added capacity from other satellite network providers.

A Multi-orbit network means no gaps in coverage

Boynton believes access to multiple satellite networks using one set of unified equipment will have significant positive implications for commercial airlines and their passengers.

“Access to connectivity from all available orbits will allow airlines to deliver to their passengers a dramatically enhanced onboard connectivity experience. When bandwidth demands in high-traffic areas around Heathrow Airport in London or the notoriously clogged East Coast corridor congest one network, airlines can split the load across networks, enhancing efficiency and ensuring continuity of service.”

Multi-orbit networks enhance crew communications, ease inflight processes, and more

In addition to an enhanced inflight Wi-Fi connectivity experience for passengers, airlines will also be able to leverage multi-orbit connectivity for secure crew communications, payment processing and order facilitation in the cabin, electronic baggage data exchange, or to launch revenue-generating advertising platforms. Flight crews can access more detailed and frequent weather information that can optimize routing, reducing fuel usage and costs.

“The flexibility, agility, and dynamism of multi-orbit connectivity have great potential to elevate the inflight experience for both passengers and cabin crews,” Boynton continued.

While multi-orbit capabilities are available now, there is more innovation to come.

Today, network selection is predetermined based on a given flight plan or programmed to switch from one network to another at a particular juncture of the flight. In the not-too-distant future, however, algorithms and terminals at the edge will enable automated smart network switching, informed by the real-time performance of each network. Even further into the future, multi-network arbitration will enable network switching on the fly and the ability to deliver the most suitable and appropriate network based on specific applications in use. Passengers on the same flight could be accessing connectivity from different orbits based on usage or degree of tolerable latency.

Airlines offering superior inflight experiences will have an advantage

With business and leisure travel exceeding pre-pandemic levels, passengers will choose the airlines that offer superior experiences. Boynton says airlines tapping into Intelsat’s multi-orbit connectivity offering will be better positioned to deliver exceptional experiences that boost loyalty and positively impact the bottom line. “As loyalty becomes increasingly connected to the inflight experience, airlines need partners that can help them deliver premium connectivity and great entertainment options on board. Our knowledge of the commercial aviation business, commitment to innovation, vast experience, and heritage as a pioneering architect of satellite communications services, will benefit airlines that choose Intelsat as their inflight experience partner.”

For flight crews already juggling myriad responsibilities, connectivity concerns should be the least of their worries. Although crew members have access to our customer care agents, passengers can seamlessly connect and engage with the agents via chat during the flight without crew member assistance.

Agents are adept at swiftly addressing diverse concerns and questions ranging from how to connect during flight to IFC plans or billing to general usage information. Using real-time data like flight and usage information along with past chat experiences the Customer Care team is staffed to ensure passengers can be helped promptly.

Navigating the Assistance Process: Connecting Passengers Onboard

Intelsat customer care agents manage 2700 aircraft and up to 1500 contacts per day. Passengers have multiple avenues to reach our support team. In the air, they can connect with agents effortlessly through chat or email; on the ground, they have the added option of calling an agent. All agents are at least bi-lingual, and several are tri-lingual.

With instant access to information about the flight, tail number, device, user and more, Intelsat agents are always ready to assist with troubleshooting. “Our goal is to achieve the highest level of passenger satisfaction, no matter where in the world they’re flying,” said Jerry Oversen, senior vice president of Operations.

Elevating Services Through Feedback and Innovation

“The key to providing exceptional service isn’t just answering questions and moving on, but also using this information to continuously improve services,” continued Oversen. “Beyond helping passengers, the Customer Care team actively engages in collecting valuable feedback that is shared with their counterparts in engineering, product, and operations. When we notice trend changes, we take the time to deep dive and understand the root cause to implement change and optimize service.”

Connecting the Skies with Seamless Care

As inflight connectivity services continue to expand, Intelsat’s Customer Care team stands out as a beacon of support, ensuring passengers and crew can focus on their journey without disruptions in connectivity. “We strive to provide customers with the best inflight experience every day, on every flight,” said Oversen.

McLean, Va. – Intelsat, operator of the world’s largest integrated satellite and terrestrial network, today was selected by Aerolíneas Argentinas to provide multi-orbit inflight connectivity service on 18 Airbus A330 and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline will become the first in Latin America to offer service using Intelsat’s new electronically steered array (ESA) antenna.

“Aerolíneas Argentinas’ passengers will soon benefit from multi-orbit connectivity that will provide the same fast and dependable internet access they enjoy at home,” said Dave Bijur, Senior Vice President for Commercial Aviation. “Intelsat’s partnerships with innovative Latin American airlines highlight how the region’s carriers are leading the way when it comes to the most advanced connectivity.”

The airline’s Airbus and Boeing aircraft will soon offer Intelsat’s new ESA, which is less than seven centimeters tall and interoperates on both Intelsat’s family of geo-stationary satellites and its partner’s constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites.

Airlines are competing to offer seamless and effective IFC services to satisfy passengers’ desire to stay connected in flight and throughout their travels. In this exclusive Inflight Connectivity podcast, host Lucas Hunsicker sat down with Ben Griffin, vice president of mobility services for Eutelsat OneWeb, who sheds light on how low-Earth orbit satellites as part of a multi-orbit network are transforming IFC offerings.

Griffin spoke on the technical challenges and innovations that make multi-orbit IFC a reality. We’ll also explore the impact of multi-orbit IFC on the aviation industry and its benefits for travelers. Discover how airlines are seizing the opportunity to differentiate themselves by offering superior inflight connectivity, opening doors to new revenue streams, and enhancing the passenger experience.

As the demand for seamless internet access soars among airline passengers, the race is on to deliver fast, reliable, and global connectivity at 35,000 feet.

“The IFC evolution over the rest of this decade and probably beyond is more an evolution of Leo-Geo. It’s harnessing all the available technology and consolidating it into a service. Because after all, airlines and customers aren’t buying a Leo or Geo service, they’re buying a connectivity service.”
